29th ANNUAL ICABR CONFERENCE 2025

For the first time in the 29 International Consortium on Applied Bioeconomy Research conferences, ICABR  was held in Canada. From July 8-11, Saskatoon, SK hosted the 29th conference. Nestled along the picturesque South Saskatchewan River, Saskatoon is a vibrant city known for its scenic beauty, thriving downtown, and dynamic innovation ecosystem. Often referred to as the “Hub City,” Saskatoon stands at the forefront of Canada’s agricultural, biotechnology, and innovation clusters, seamlessly blending its agricultural heritage with cutting-edge advancements. Renowned as a leading agribusiness center, Saskatoon combines fertile lands with research excellence to drive progress in crop science, livestock management, and sustainable farming practices. Home to the University of Saskatchewan and world-class facilities like Innovation Place, the city plays a pivotal role in global food security and agricultural sustainability.
The conference theme 2025 was “Circular Bioeconomy and Systems of Sustainability“, which addressed the pressing need for innovative and sustainable solutions in food production amidst challenges like resource depletion, climate variability, and economic pressures. The ICABR 2025 Conference in Saskatoon featured an exciting lineup of keynote speakers, Dr. Alison van Eenennaam (UC Davis), Dr. Kathleen Hefferon (Cornell), & Dr. Kai Purnhagen (Universität Bayreuth, DE. These distinguished speakers delved into critical topics shaping the bioeconomy, sharing insights and research that drive advancements in global food security, policy, and innovation. Alongside our Keynotes, ICABR hosted several panel sessions and a number of parallel paper presentations across the four days of the conference, which we encapsulates the need to support a “Circular Bioeconomy and Systems of Sustainability” within agriculture.
